Through the Basketball-KTN project, a dynamic series of psychological training activities was delivered by the Federación de Baloncesto de Castilla-La Mancha, focusing on the holistic development of young athletes. Combining theory, practical exercises, and group interaction, the sessions brought together athletes, parents, and coaches to explore key aspects of well-being, emotional development, healthy habits, and responsible use of technology.
Three Interconnected Pillars of Athlete Well-being
Over the course of three engaging sessions, participants explored:
1. Psychological Development in Youth Sports
The first workshop highlighted the importance of emotional awareness, stress management, and motivation in youth sports. Coaches and parents were encouraged to support young athletes not just technically, but mentally—providing safe and empowering environments where mistakes become opportunities for growth. Tools such as mindfulness, goal-setting, and constructive communication were introduced to help young athletes cope with pressure and build confidence.
2. Responsible Use of Technology and Social Media
The second session addressed the increasing influence of digital tools on the lives of young athletes. Participants discussed the benefits and risks linked to social media, with emphasis on maintaining a healthy balance. Practical advice was offered on “digital hygiene,” creating a positive online identity, and avoiding comparison and distraction — helping young players build healthy technology habits that support, rather than undermine, their mental health and performance.
3. Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Habits
The final session focused on the role of nutrition in sports performance. Participants learned about balanced diet, proper hydration, and timing of meals, all essential to support energy, recovery, and growth. The psychological dimensions of eating, including body image and emotional eating, were also discussed — encouraging a healthy and positive relationship with food among young athletes.
Learning Through Interaction
Each session combined theoretical explanations with dynamic group activities. Visual presentations, whiteboard work, and written exercises supported engagement, while peer discussions and interactive challenges reinforced key lessons. Participants actively shared experiences, practiced emotional and communication skills, and reflected on their development, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Looking Ahead
These sessions underline the commitment of the Basketball-KTN project to support youth development in a multidimensional way. By integrating emotional education, responsible digital engagement, and physical well-being, the project offers young athletes the tools to grow not only as players, but also as confident and resilient individuals.
