July at Basketball-KTN: Psychological Empowerment in Spain and Italy

July was a milestone month for the psychological training activities of the Basketball-KTN Erasmus+ project, with key partners in Spain and Italy delivering impactful sessions focused on emotional intelligence, self-confidence, mindfulness, and stress management for young athletes.

Psychological Iteration 1 in Spain – Federación de Baloncesto de Castilla-La Mancha

On 2 July 2025, the Basketball Federation of Castilla-La Mancha organized a full-day session in Cuenca titled “Building Self-Confidence & Managing Stress and Anxiety”, with 86 participants from different regional clubs.

Led by a sports psychologist, the training focused on emotional management within a team context. Players also participated in engaging group activities, exploring the qualities of the “ideal player” and learning how to align them with their own personal development in sports and life.

Psychological Iterations in Italy – College Basketball SSDRL

In Borgomanero, Italy, the College Basketball SSDRL team delivered two psychological sessions as part of a multi-group summer camp, using hands-on methods that merged education and group-based experiential learning.

1st Iteration – 2 July 2025

With 75 participants, the theme focused on “Building Self-Confidence & Managing Stress and Anxiety”, similar to the Spanish session but tailored for different age groups in rotating workshops. The session included:

  • A lecture on emotional management and healthy communication
  • Small group activities encouraging self-awareness and collaboration

 2nd Iteration – 9 July 2025

The second iteration featured 80 young athletes and addressed “Focus, Concentration & Emotional Regulation”. Participants learned practical techniques to maintain concentration under pressure and practiced emotional self-control during high-stress game settings.

Common highlights included:

  • A blend of theory and practical experience
  • Small-group workshops to maximize interaction and learning
  • Visual and written exercises that reinforced active learning

What’s Next?

These iterations mark just the beginning of the psychological training workshops within the Basketball-KTN project. More topics like motivation, team dynamics, and communication strategies will follow — always combining the power of sports with psychological growth.
