Basketball-KTN Participates in Dual Career Seminar in Thessaloniki

On January 31, 2025, Basketball-KTN had the honor of collaborating with the Erasmus+ Sports project IPR-A and participating in the Dual Career Seminar held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Within the framework of the synergy between the two Erasmus+ projects, this event provided a unique opportunity to explore the link between basketball development and athletes’ career planning.

Empowering Athletes Beyond the Court

The seminar focused on the challenges athletes face in balancing their sporting careers with their personal and professional growth. Special emphasis was placed on the role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in protecting an athlete’s image, name, and personal brand.

We had the privilege of hearing from Professor Dimitris Gargalianos, a leading expert in Dual Careers for Athletes, who shared valuable insights on how athletes can successfully transition from sports to other professional opportunities. His presentation highlighted strategies to ensure athletes gain the recognition and compensation they deserve for their personal brand.

The topics discussed included:

  • Balancing education and sports: Practical approaches for young athletes to combine training with academic studies.
  • Legal and economic aspects of sports careers: How intellectual property rights can safeguard an athlete’s legacy.
  • Personal branding and career longevity: Strategies for sustainable professional opportunities beyond active sports careers.

The collaboration between Basketball-KTN and IPR-A in this seminar emphasized the importance of integrating education, career planning, and sports development. This synergy reflects our commitment to providing young athletes with the tools and knowledge they need for long-term success both on and off the court.

Following the success of this event, Basketball-KTN will continue to develop initiatives that support basketball players in their career paths, providing resources through our Knowledge Transfer Network and Communities of Practice.
