Basketball Training Approach for Young Athletes (ages 12–19)

Continuing the knowledge transfer among the partners of the Basketball-KTN project, on March 10, 2025, an online webinar was held, led by College Basketball, presenting valuable practices and approaches for structuring training sessions for players aged U13 to U19.

For the younger age groups, the focus is on developing coordinative abilities, with emphasis on ball control, managing numerical advantages and disadvantages, and executing fast breaks. At the U14 level, training begins to highlight off-ball situations, while players are introduced to 1-on-1 play in the low post.

As athletes progress, training sessions incorporate more shooting techniques, while teams start to adopt and refine the Princeton Offense, aligning strategies and playing concepts. By the U16 category, more structured individual training sessions are introduced, targeting specific, closed situations to further develop skills.

The overall goal is the continuous improvement of all players, whether they compete at a local or elite level. This process relies on information exchange and collaboration among coaching staff, with constant analysis of the game and the development of both technical and tactical solutions to enhance individual and team performance.

The webinar concluded with a presentation of the resources available on the club’s and the project’s websites, highlighting the importance of continuous dialogue and idea-sharing in advancing training methodologies.

The knowledge transfer activities within the Basketball-KTN project will continue dynamically, supporting the growth and development of young athletes across Europe. Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming actions and initiatives!
